CSL Update

As of April 19, 2020, Community Senior Life has had two employees at Homestead Village of Pensacola with confirmed positive cases of COVID-19.

Community Senior Life (CSL) immediately notified the Florida Department of Health and the Agency for Health Care Administration. The administration at Homestead Village notified staff and resident family members that may have been in contact with the employees. To date, no residents have tested positive or presented symptoms of COVID-19.

The first employee has not worked at the community around our residents and other employees since April 3, 2020, and the second since April 12, 2020. Both employees are asymptomatic and have been quarantined away from the community. The unique cottage layout of Homestead Village of Pensacola allows for employees to work within individual cottages. This arrangement fosters exceptional relationship building between our caretakers and residents while also minimizing resident and employee interactions with other cottages.

All Community Senior Life assisted living and memory care residents and staff are under the oversight of a Medical Director and Registered Nurse. Furthermore, each individual CSL community is under the direction of an Assisted Living Administrators licensed professional. Together, they observe the compliance to standard precautions that apply to any respiratory and other contagious diseases.

Community Senior Life senior living communities throughout Alabama and Florida have well-established infection control protocols and are prepared to support residents and caregivers in response to any illness outbreak. To protect resident health during COVID-19, CSL has provided additional caregiver training to reinforce standard hygiene routines including infection prevention and proper sanitation practices. Each CSL community continues to practice universal precautions: disinfecting/cleaning protocols; hand washing and personal hygiene; wearing appropriate personal protection equipment; and, social distancing both in the community and encouraging employees to do so while off duty to prevent spread to any other employees. Each CSL community is following respective local and state department of health requirements including employee screening prior to contact with residents and the staff-wide usage of face masks while on duty.

Currently, each assisted living and memory care resident is screened twice per day by our nursing staff. Screening is voluntary for independent living residents. All Homestead Village assisted living and memory care residents are staying within the community for care, service, and meals per previous Community Senior Life protocols. We will continue to prohibit families, volunteers, and non-essential providers from visiting as put into effect on March 20, 2020.

Our warmest thoughts are with these employees and we hope for a full and speedy recovery. Homestead Village of Pensacola has a long history of deficiency free state surveys, numerous accolades, and superior compliance with assisted living state regulations. Together, we continue to do everything we can to prevent the virus from spreading to any of our other employees or residents.

CSL will continue to post updates as they arise via social media, our website, CommunitySeniorLife.org, and internal communications with our employees, residents, and family members.

Warmly,

Team Members Signatures
