CSL Update

On April 22, the nursing staff at Homestead Village of Pensacola assisted Ascension Sacred Heart Hospital in conducting 163 on-site COVID-19 tests across its assisted living and memory care residents and staff members.

Out of 163 tests, 161 test results came back negative, 1 resident tested positive, and 1 employee that had already tested positive on April 14, re-tested positive. The infected employee has remained quarantined from the community and was tested in their vehicle.

The resident has been transferred to a local hospital. The resident’s apartment and belongings have been sanitized in accordance with CDC recommendations. Since the threat of COVID-19 began, the care staff at Homestead Village of Pensacola have practiced sanitation and disinfection procedures twice per shift on a daily basis for each cottage in the community. The cottage in which the resident resides immediately underwent a deep cleaning and sanitization upon the transfer of the resident from Homestead Village to the hospital.

Community Senior Life is following all local and state department of health requirements included employee screening prior to contact with residents and the staff-wide usage of face masks while on duty. Homestead Village is continuing to practice universal precautions: disinfecting/cleaning protocols; hand washing and personal hygiene; wearing appropriate personal protection equipment; and, social distancing both in the community and encouraging employees to do so while off duty.

The nursing staff at Homestead Village of Pensacola screens each assisted living and memory care resident, with voluntary screening for independent living residents, for fever and respiratory symptoms twice daily. Despite twice daily resident screenings and pre-shift employee screenings, the two positive cases at Homestead Village of Pensacola never showed, and continue not to show, any symptoms or fever.

All Homestead Village assisted living and memory care residents are staying within the community for care, service, and meals per previous Community Senior Life protocols. We will continue to prohibit families, volunteers, and non-essential providers from visiting as put into effect on March 20, 2020.

We will continue to post updates as they arise via social media, our website, CommunitySeniorLife.org, and internal communications with our employees, residents, and family members.
